Immersion 1

The biology teacher looked very stressed as she entered the room holding a heavy incubator and breathing hard. It was totally clear to me that she
wouldn't be able to control the class that morning.

As for myself, I was petrified. Being the new kid on the block and the youngest in class I was pretty much the easiest target for bullies.

I was already used to being bullied in my previous schools. The fact that I was wearing hearing aids and had to go through multiple plastic surgeries made me stand out as the ugly one since kindergarten.

My mom always said I was a tough dude, and that whoever made fun of the way I looked was to be considered lame.

Although her opinion really counts, this was no ordinary school.

In one corner of the room there were a bunch of kids swearing and smoking with their hoods on. In the other corner there was the creepy looking guy with his skull shaped helmet on the desk.

Technically all students had their own noisy little group, that aspired nothing and never interacted with each other. And in the midst of all this mess, there I was pretending to be invisible. I had given up trying to blend in once and for all.

Had I known starting sixth grade in a new school would be that hard, I would never have left home that morning.

Suddenly the teacher started speaking in a very calm, but firm voice, and the most amazing thing happened.
All the students immediately stopped talking and started listening to her.

She sounded so peaceful. It was like she had some kind of superpower or something.

I saw a light at the end of the tunnel... I guess there's hope after all.
